US President Donald Trump has promised to directly pay every adult American citizen a $5,000 “dividend” if Republicans win both the Senate and House of Representatives in the 2026 midterm elections.
Announcing the decision during his speech at the Republican Midterm Convention in Dallas, the president said the fund will be called the Trump Dividend. Trump said he will issue the dividend fund to every adult citizen in the US, specifying the amount as $5,000. As per the reports, such as measure could likely cost more than $1 trillion.
Describing it a “Warrior Dividend”, the president said the money could come in part from revenue from tariffs. Notably, Trump has proposed other payouts to Americans in the past too.
In 2025, Trump had claimed that his tariffs were bringing in trillions of dollars and wrote that a “dividend of at least $2,000 a person (not including high income people!) will be paid to everyone.”
