A student body released an Islamophobic calendar, documenting the Muslim Hindutva racist attacks happened last year. The web Calendar is named as “Hate Watch 2023: Daily Accounts of Islamophobia”. It is released by student organisation named as Fraternity Movement. The calendar documents the Islamophobic incidents that happened in India during the year 2023. It was released at the organisation”s South Zone Campus leaders’ meet held in Hyderabad. National president of Fraternity Movement, Asim Khan handed over the calendar to Dr. Sadiq PK, Principal of Media One Academy.
According to the student body, Islamophobia is being normalized in India at an ‘alarming level’ in the form of mob lynching, property demolitions, and institutionalized violence like orchestrated mass killings. The student body vows that they refuse to surrender to the “new normal”. Taking to its social media platform, Fraternity Movement stated that “it is a known fact that the oppressive Hindutva regime in India thrives on the violence inflicted upon Muslims in the country”.
Calling repression as the capital of Hindutva regime, the student body, associated with Welfare Party of India said, the web calendar has assorted a number of institutionalized violence like planned massacres, vandalism and anti-Muslim hate speech, that happened in 2023 alone.
Highlighting that Remembrance is resistance during the time of mass forgetting. Taking a jibe at the deliberate act of major political parties of the country in eliding to address the alarming rate of Islamophobic attacks in India, the Movement said, it is imperative to defeat this new normal through resistance, “especially when the issues are not an issue at all for the popular opposition in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections”.
The calendar includes incidents ranging from depicting Muslim men as terrorists wearing a religious attire at school festivals, man beaten to death by cow vigilantes, demolition and stone pelting at mosques and Muslim properties, Indian Army forcing Muslims inside mosque to chant Jai Shri Ram, arrest for offering prayer, to forming campaign to ban henna artists in the name, “targeting religious conversion” and asking students to demolish poster of Babri Masjid as part of a school function.
