Yet another mob lynching. 26 year old Muhammed Isar was beaten to death for allegedly consuming prasad from one of the Ganapati stall in Sundar Nagari, North East Delhi. Isar was a mentally challenged person, according to reports.

The video of Isar being tied to pole and beaten to death went viral on social media. The incident happened around 5:00 am on Tuesday. He was tied to pole for allegedly “stealing” prasad from the makeshift worship hall and the group of men thrashed him to death. The video shows Isar crying out for help in pain.

He was brought to home by his neighbour Aamir. Isar”s 60 year old father Abdul Wajid said when he came back home in the evening, Ahmed was still bleeding and crying in pain. “He told me he had eaten the prasad kept in front of the Ganapati idol. The mob beat him up with sticks and rods. There were marks all over his body”. The father told Isar has also provided details about some of the men. Mr. Wajid accuses the neighbours who he alleges to be Hindus, for not aiding to his plea of pain. “Even if he ate prasad, why would you kill someone over it? How is it theft? And is this the punishment for eating offerings to God?”, asked Mr. Wajid.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Joy Tirkey said a charge of murder has been registered and investigation is under going. However, the DCP did not clarified whether the issue was communal. According to police, the preliminary investigation suggests the victim to be mentally challenged and could not put forward coherent answers when attacked by the mob.

Police has been deployed at the area where the crime occured to curb further escalation of the allegedly communal mob lynching. Muhammed Isar was survived by his four sisters and parents.
