AMU Student Tamkeen Fatima Secures Second Rank In UGC-NET JRF In First Attempt

Tamkeen Fatima, a student of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has secured AIR 2 in the UGC NET JRF 2024 exam with an overall 99.9933 percentile. The second-year M.Tech student of Computer Science and Engineering achieved this success in her first attempt.

Ms Fatima is a student of AMU’s Z.H College of Engineering and Technology. She graduated B.Tech in 2023 and secured a high CGPI of 9.703. The AMU engineering student also had received multiple scholarships including UP STSE and AMU’s University Merit Financial Award. She has also undergone training with prestigious institutes such as ISRO, McMaster University, and The Fields Institute of Canada.

Also, today has been a historic moment for Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) when the Supreme Court has overruled the Basha Judgment which says that an educational institution can claim a minority tag only if it is established and managed by a minority community. The bench said that a regular bench will decide whether AMU is a minority institution or not.

The AMU community expressed satisfaction with the Supreme Court’s decision about the minority status and said it was a comprehensive win for minority rights in general and AMU in particular.

AMU Vice Chancellor Prof. Naima Khatoon also honored the verdict and said, “We also respect the Supreme Court judgement. We will just wait. We will discuss with our legal experts and then examine the matter. I am not in the position to say anything right now”.
