Bharat Mata Row: SFI Students Held Protest In Kerala University Over Alleged 'Saffronisation' Of Education

The Student Federation of India (SFI) students in Kerala take out a massive protest outside Kerala University over alleged ‘Saffronisation’ of the education institutes. The protest is part of a broader ongoing conflict between SFI and university authorities, including the Governor of Kerala, who serves as the Chancellor of the university.

The tension erupted after the ‘Bharat Mata’ Image was displayed during a university event, which SFI argues promotes RSS ideology.

The police were deployed to control the protesting SFI students, and the tear gas and water cannons were used, reflecting broader tension in the educational landscape.

Reportedly, the protest is so severe that 27 students were given a show-cause notice by the admin.

The SFI declared a statewide boycott of classes on Thursday, July 10, 2025, as part of its protest against Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlekar’s attempt to saffronise the universities in the state.

SFI President M. Sivaprasad also issued a warning to oppose and reject the authority of temporary VC, accusing Raj Bhavan of facilitating RSS Hindu majoritarian, anti-minority, divisive higher education and right-wing nationalist.

SFI alleged that the Congress led United Democratic Front (UDF) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are collaborating in Kerala’s education institutes.

Earlier, a rift was observed between the Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor on one side and the left-leaning Registrar on the other side, when the Registrar of Kerala University was suspended, who said it was a violation of authority.
