Delhi University Students Organise Protest Against Fee Hike

Students of the University of Delhi have organised a protest on the campus against the fee hikes by the University administration. As per the students, the increased fee in the 2025-26 academic session will impact students widely, especially students from economically poor and other marginal sections of society.

The Student Federation of India (SFI) in its press release said that this fee hike will make higher education difficult for students. SFI mentioned that on April 3, 2025,  University while using it emergency powers passed the fee structure without public discussion or issuing any notice. SFI calls the fee hike undemocratic and criticises the university for making education a commodity instead of a service.

In its press release, the student body mentioned that in the last three years university has increased the fee heavily in a systematic way.

Reportedly, since 2022, the contribution to the University Development Fund has increased by 67%. In 2024-25, it went from Rs 1,200 to 1,500.

The University Facility and Services Charges have gone up by 200% in the last three years from Rs 500 to Rs 1500.

The contribution to the Economically Weaker Section Welfare Fund has gone up to 150% since 2022, reaching from Rs 100 to Rs 250.

The alleged arbitrary hike in the free structure violates the Delhi University’s 10% annual fee hike policy and rejects social justice.
