Delhi University Assures Students To Reconsider Fee Hike Order: SFI Convenor

Today, the students of Delhi University presented their demands to the Student Welfare department, urging them to reconsider their order of fee hikes for the 2025-26 academic session. The students and student organizations have called the university administration’s decision on the fee hike against social justice and arbitrary.

SFI students, including Joint Secretary of SFI Delhi Mehina Fathima, Convenor of SFI Delhi Sohan Yadav, and other representatives, put their demands to the DSW, North Campus, Delhi University.

In response to the demands, the University has assured students that it will reconsider its decision. “The DSW officials have ensured to reduce the arbitrary increase in the college fees. The fee hike under different funds will be reconsidered where it goes beyond the 10% limit of the DU fee structure policy.”, Sohan Yadav said.

“The fees were raised in 3 areas, including the education development fund, facility charges, and EWS welfare fund. The university administration has said to look into the fee structure and will consider students’ demands”, he added.

SFI, in its press release, earlier mentioned that in the last 3 years university has increased the fee heavily in a systematic way.

Reportedly, since 2022, the contribution to the University Development Fund has increased by 67%. In 2024-25, it went from Rs 1,200 to 1,500.

The University Facility and Services Charges have gone up by 200% in the last three years from Rs 500 to Rs 1500.

The contribution to the Economically Weaker Section Welfare Fund has gone up to 150% since 2022, reaching from Rs 100 to Rs 250.
