Cambridge University Press has joined the Indian Government’s transformative One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) initiative, designed to democratise access to academic and research materials across the country. This programme will allow India’s academic and research communities to utilise Cambridge’s extensive collection of over 430 peer-reviewed journals, spanning Science, Technology, Medicine, Humanities, and Social Sciences.

ONOS, spearheaded by the Indian Government, aims to provide seamless access to quality scholarly resources for over 1.77 crore users in 6,380 government-funded institutions. This initiative aligns with India’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, focusing on creating a holistic research ecosystem that fosters innovation and global academic collaboration.

Mandy Hill, Managing Director of Academic Publishing at Cambridge University Press, emphasised the synergy between ONOS and Cambridge’s mission to advance global learning. “We believe that broader access fuels greater research impact. ONOS allows us to put this principle into practice. Through this initiative, we hope to promote knowledge sharing and innovation by collaborating with Indian institutions. We commend the Indian Government’s commitment to supporting researchers and learners,” Hill said during her recent visit to India.

The ONOS initiative will also enhance India’s research output by offering discounted publication fees, encouraging academic publishing, and aligning with the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Cambridge’s participation is expected to empower Indian scholars, boosting their global research contributions and positioning India as a leader in scholarly excellence.

Arun Rajamani, Managing Director of Cambridge University Press & Assessment, South Asia, described ONOS as a “game-changer” for India’s higher education landscape. “We are proud to be part of this endeavour, empowering the next generation of researchers and unlocking India’s potential for groundbreaking discoveries. By sharing Cambridge’s wealth of knowledge, we aim to foster innovation and excellence across the country,” he stated.

Indian universities under ONOS will gain access to prestigious Cambridge journals, including the Journal of Fluid Mechanics, British Journal of Psychiatry, Industrial and Organizational Psychology, and Epidemiology & Infection, among others.

To maximise its impact, Cambridge plans to organise a series of workshops and activities tailored to the academic and research community in India. These initiatives include guidance on publishing, author services, and building researcher networks, aiming to create a robust ecosystem for knowledge-sharing and academic advancement.
