CBSE Suspends Affiliation of 21 Schools After Surprise Inspection

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has suspended the affiliation of 21 schools across Rajasthan and Delhi after surprise inspections revealed widespread irregularities. The inspections, conducted on 3 September 2024, targeted 27 schools to ensure compliance with CBSE’s attendance regulations as per its Affiliation and Examination Bye-Laws.

The inspections aimed to address the issue of “dummy” or non-attending students, particularly in classes IX to XII, which the CBSE claims undermine the integrity of education. Following the inspections, Show Cause Notices were issued to the schools involved, allowing them 30 days to respond. Upon reviewing the responses and video evidence, CBSE took strict action by withdrawing affiliations from 21 schools. Additionally, six schools were downgraded from Senior Secondary to Secondary level.

A CBSE dummy school is a private school where students who are preparing for entrance exams such as engineering and medical take admissions where they do not have to attend regular classes.

The CBSE emphasized its commitment to high educational standards and holistic student development, noting that dummy admissions are incompatible with these values. This action, according to the board, sends a clear message against unethical admissions practices. CBSE has vowed to maintain rigorous standards and hold affiliated institutions accountable to ensure lawful and ethical educational practices across all schools.

In September, the Central Board of education sent showcause notices to 27 affiliated schools in Delhi and Rajasthan after they were found in violation of the bye-laws, concerning the enrollment of students and attendance practices.
