Haryana ADA Recruitment Exam Syllabus May Change After HC Admits Challenge
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has allowed a petition challenging the abrupt change in the syllabus for the Haryana Assistant Attorney (ADA) recruitment exam, shifting focus from law-centric subjects to general knowledge.
The petitioner challenged the greater focus on the general knowledge portion in the ADA exam syllabus, which excludes the law subject. The new syllabus for the screening test includes current events of national and international importance, history of India, Indian and world geography, Indian culture, Indian polity and economy, general mental ability, reasoning and analytical abilities, basic numeracy, numbers and their relations, data interpretation, Haryana GK history, etc.
Justice Sandeep Moudgil allowed the petition requesting withdrawal of the advertisement and modification of the syllabus of the screening test.

The plea filed by a law graduate said that an overemphasis on the general knowledge instead of law law-centric syllabus is irrational and arbitrary. It mentioned that the change in the scheme pattern was made without proper consultation and requisition between the Haryana government and HPSC, as required under Article 320 of the Constitution.
It further stated that the new pattern of examination unfairly worked with practicing lawyers who may have better knowledge of law but lack general knowledge and aptitude, thus preventing from competing in the subject knowledge test.
