Hokkaido, Japan Delegation Visits JMI To Explore Collaboration Possibilities

The University Placement Cell (UPC), Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) hosted a delegation from Hokkaido, Japan, on January 22, 2025, in the office of the Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Technology of the university. The delegation, consisting of 12 members, was led by Mr Kazuaki Ikeda, the Director of the Bureau for International Affairs and the Department of Policy Planning and Coordination for the Hokkaido Government. The team included directors, CEOs, and representatives from various notable industries and the Government of Hokkaido, Japan.

The team from the UPC, JMI included Prof. Rahela Farooqi, Hony. Director of UPC, Prof. Sabah Khan, Hony. Deputy Director, and Prof. Rihan K. Suri, the Training & Placement Officer of JMI. They were accompanied by Prof Mini Thomas, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering & Technology at JMI.

Mr. Kazauki Ikeda and his team delivered a presentation on potential collaboration with the UPC to explore internship and employment opportunities in the IT Sector at various companies, including Yamaha Coco, Sapporo Industry, Yamako Industry Co., Ltd, Media Magic Inc, etc situated in Hokkaido Island, Japan. Mr. Ikeda also shared an overview of Hokkaido’s geographical and climatic characteristics, an island situated in the north of Japan, in anticipation that Indian students would have a comfortable stay in Hokkaido during their internship span.

A presentation on JMI was delivered by Prof Sabah Khan, which received positive feedback from the Hokkaido team. As a result, they have resolved to span their horizon to other fields like Architecture, Civil Engineering, Hospitality Management and Production Engineering, etc. The delegation expressed admiration for the educational quality, cultural diversity, and research- oriented innovative spirit present across various fields, including the Sciences, Social Sciences and Engineering Faculties at JMI.

The program concluded with a Q & A session, attended by students and faculty members. The Japanese delegation is expected to provide their terms and conditions for the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with UPC, JMI.
