After 6.7 Magnitude Earthquake, Japan Issues Tsunami Warning For Iwate Prefecture
Iwate Prefecture, Japan: A powerful earthquake struck the northern Pacific region on Sunday, forcing Japan to issue a tsunami advisory for Iwate prefecture. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported the earthquake’s magnitude as 6.8, while India’s National Center for Seismology (NCS) measured it at 6.6.
The country, which is prone to Tsunamees, predicted a possible tsunami of up to one meter (three feet) high and asked the resident not to approach coastal areas.

Japan is still recovering from the devastating 2011 quake, which triggered a massive tsunami leaving around 18,500 people dead or missing. The disaster also caused a nuclear meltdown at the Fukushima plant.
Notably, an earthquake of magnitude 5.4 struck Andaman Sea on Sunday, as per the National Center for Seismology.
