
A Month After Deadly Quake, Magnitude 5.66 Earthquake Hits Afghanistan
An earthquake of magnitude 5.66 hit the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border on Friday evening, October 16, the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ) said. The earthquake was at a depth of 10 km (6.21 miles) occurred 46 km southeast of Khandud.
There were no immediate reports of any losses, damages, injuries or casualties. Last month, a magnitude of 6.2 earthquake struck southeastern Afghanistan, which killed more than 2,200 people.

The latest quake has ignited fears and terror among the people who are living with memories of last month’s devastating earthquake.
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the tremor occurred 47 km north-northwest of Khandud at a depth of 43 km. No immediate damage or casualties were reported.
An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 struck the country earlier the day, at a depth of 10 kilometres. The tremors were felt in parts of eastern Afghanistan, including regions near the border with Pakistan.

Afghanistan is prone to earthquakes and tremors as it lies in one of the world’s most active seismic zones, where the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates collide.
