IIT Bombay Holds 63rd Convocation; Confers 3135 Degrees
Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) held the 63rd Convocation and Departmental Degree Award Function (DDAF) in the academic units of the degree recipients on two consecutive days viz. August 23rd and 24th , 2025.
The DDAFs of the 63rd Convocation were presided over by a Chief Guest, Head of Department and faculty members of the Department.
A total of 3135 degrees were awarded to 2838 students during the departmental function, including 498* PhD degrees. [* includes 219 PhD degrees awarded during the interim session of the 63rd Convocation held on February 22, 2025].
The Institute Director Prof. Shireesh Kedare congratulated the degree and medal recipients and their parents on the occasion.
The President of India Gold Medal was bestowed on Tamojeet Roychowdhury, a B.Tech student from the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Institute Gold Medal was bestowed on Jacob Thomas Sony, a Dual Degree Student from the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold, Medal was conferred on Devashish Girish Bhave, a IDDDP (Interdisciplinary Dual Degree Programme) student from the Department of Chemistry. Additionally, many more students were presented other gold and silver medals to recognize their excellent performance.
During the academic year 2024-25, a total of 3489 degrees were awarded to 3175 students including 679 female and 2496 male students. [Includes degrees awarded during the interim session of the 63rd Convocation held on February 22, 2025].
The undergraduate degrees include 954 B.Tech along with 210 Dual Degree (BTech+MTech) and 45 Interdisciplinary Dual Degrees (BTech/ BS+MTech/ MBA), 81 four-year BS, along with 7 Dual Degree (BS+MSc), 26 BDes, along with 11 Dual Degree (BDes+MDes), and 10 three-year BS.

639 MTech, 44 MS by research, 8 MA by research, 64 MDes, 8 MA, 4 MDP, 302 two-year MSc, and 113 MBA, 13 MPP, and 20 PGDIIT were the postgraduate degrees awarded during the academic year 2024-25.
498 PhD [including 235 PhD, 17 Dual Degree of MTech/ MPhil+PhD, 7 Dual Degree of MSc+PhD, and 20 joint PhDs along with Monash University and 219 (PhD) degrees awarded during the interim session of the 63rd Convocation held in February 2025] were awarded during the academic year 2024-25.
The total 498 PhD degrees awarded during the academic year 2024-25 includes 170 female and 328 male students.
