IIT Madras Joins Hands With 5G Group Of Companies
IIT Madras” AMTDC partners with 5G technologies to develop AI based smart manufacturing technologies for Small and Medium Manufacturers (SMM).
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras” Advanced Manufacturing Technology Development Center, a center of excellence, will collaborate with Fifth Genration Technologies (P) Ltd, an Indian operation by 5G groups of companies, whose headquarters are in Canada, to develop smart solutions for small and medium manufacturers.
Highlighting the unique aspects of this collaboration, N. Ramesh Babu, Secratary, AMTDC, said : “Many SMMs have old machines which do not have controllers. By connecting such machines using IoT (internet of things) sensors and collecting real time operational data, we shall also convert them to smart machines”
The key outcome envisaged through this collaboration the development of AI and machine learning – based techniques to calculate the real time optimization of different machining processes. This could help lower operational costs and improve efficiencies.
Dr.Ananth Sheshan, Chairman of 5G technologies said the main objective of the collaboration is to deliver affordable AI based tools and techniques that will enhance the competitveness of Small and Medium Manufacturers.
The collaboration is also aimed at using student interns thereby facilitating the development of well trained next generation work force for the manufacturing industry.
The AMTDC is established by IIT Madras as a not-for-profit registered society in 2016 under the Ministry of Heavy Industries scheme called “Enhancement of Competitiveness of Indian Capital Goods Sector”.
Teh center is set up over an area of 9000 sq ft at IIT Madras Research Park. It housed developed technologies and utilize them to continue transformational technology development with other industries and government research and development organizations.
