NCERT Issues Public Apology Over Chapter On Judicial Corruption

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has issued a public apology to the Indian judiciary for its new class 8 textbook that contained a chapter on corruption in the Indian judiciary. Notably, NCERT had already banned the publication, circulation, and digital distribution of the content of the textbook following the orders by the Supreme Court of India.

In its public apology issued by the NCERT, the educational body said, “NCERT has recently published a social science textbook ‘Exploring Society: India and Beyond’, Grade 8 (Part II), which contained Chapter IV titled “The Role of Judiciary in our Society”.

The Director and Members of NCERT hereby tender an unconditional and unqualified apology for the said Chapter IV. The entire book has been withdrawn and is not available.
