'Not Able To Write Or Pronounce Eleven': Video Of Chattisgarh Teacher Goes Viral

A video of a teacher struggling to write the correct spelling of numbers on the class board is making rounds on the internet, while netizens question the level of teaching in government schools in India. The viral video is reportedly from a government school in Balrampur, Chhattisgarh.

In the short clip the teacher when asked upon to write the spelling of Eleven and Nineteen on the black board not only wrote the wrong spelling also mispronounce them. The teacher wrote Eleven as ‘Allovn’ and ‘Aivene’ And Nineteen as ‘Nintin’.

The video started a debate about the future of students who get educated in the government schools where teachers are not able to write or pronounce the correct spelling. However, some users said that to need to upgrade the teachers’ knowledge with the changing time by timely skilling or training them as per the needs of education.

Some have been questioning the personator in the classroom, while other users are raising concerns about the impact of reservation on teaching level. “Benefits of Reservation, the teacher was hired under reserved quota to uplift SC/ST”, one user wrote.

The video raises serious concerns about the level of education in government schools, with already poor reading and arithmetic skills among students. Notably, as per the ASER report 2024, the reading ability of government schools in India is already low. At class II level, only 23.4% students can read. While at Class V level, only 44.84% of students in government schools have the reading ability.
