UGC chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar said the Common University Examination Test – Undergraduate (CUET-UG) will be held as per the schedule announced earlier. There were reports earlier that the CUET UG schedule will be changed after the announcement of the Lok Sabha election dates. However, the entrance examinations will take place between May 15 and May 31, 2024, he informed via X.
Mr Kumar told told news agency Press Trust of India that the exact dates for each entrance examination will be announced after once the application process is complete.
He also said that two of the exam dates, as prepared by the National Testing Agency (NTA), are overlapping with the election dates on May 20 and May 25, and the new date sheet will be prepared considering the given overlap.
The UGC chairman stated that a revised date sheet will be prepared following the application window closure, as March 26, 2024, is the deadline for completing the common entrance test application. The number of candidates and their locations around the nation will be taken into account to prepare the date sheet.
After the last date for filling out applications on March 26, 2024, we will know the number of students registered for CUET-UG and their geographical distribution. In an earlier post on “X,” he mentioned the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and talked about of the rescheduling of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET)-UG. Now that the election schedule has been made public, the National Testing Agency (NTA) is prepared to release the modified exam date sheet.
CUET is held for admission to Undergraduate Programmes into central universities and other participating universities, institutions, organizations, and autonomous colleges. Notably, the CUET-UG application process has begun on February 27. The online application window (only mode) is open from February 27 to March 26 (till 11:50 PM) and the correction window will remain open from March 28 to March 29, 2024. Last year nearly 36 lakh students appeared for the exam in nine phases across 387 cities in India and 24 cities abroad.
As per the notification released by NTA, CUET (UG) 2024 for the Academic Session 2024-25 will be conducted in the Hybrid Mode (Computer-Based Test (CBT) and Pen & Paper Mode.
The CUET (UG) 2024, will be conducted in 13 languages including English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
A Candidate can choose a maximum of any 3 languages from Section IA and Section IB taken together (the third language chosen needs to be in lieu of Domain-specific subjects). Section II offers 27 Subjects, out of which a candidate may choose a maximum of 6 Subjects. Section III comprises the General Test. Candidates should select at least one language and the General Test.
The examination will be conducted on multiple days in two or three shifts, depending on the number of candidates and subject choices.
Meanwhile, the examination for CUET-PG is already being conducted by the agency from March 11 to March 28, 2024.
