Tezpur University VC Says Students Assaulted Him Over Zubeen Remark

Tezpur University Authorities have blamed the students for assaulting them after they refused to apologise for insulting Zubeen Garg. Tezpur University previously refused to close classes and continue with their schedule despite a state-wide mourning of Zubeen Garg.

In response to this, students came out to protest on the campus, demanding that the authorities properly pay tribute to Zubeen Garg. However, the Vice Chancellor, Shambhu Nath reluctant to comply, stating that students should not make things funny.

Earlier, during a program, one of the officials wore shoes while decorating the tribute place for Zubeen Garg, and students flagged this issue.

Later in the evening, when the students demanded that the VC and others apologize, they refused. Immediately, the VC escaped and ran away from the spot.

Later, news was published in a news channel that students of Tezpur University had physically assaulted the VC, which is why he had to run. However, reports are claiming the other side of the story.

Following the student-led protest on campus, the university administration has postponed the autumn recess to send students home. The starting date of the recess has been postponed to September 24 instead of September 29, 2025.

Notably, the Assam cabinet has declared a 3-day state mourning, which was later extended till September 23, 2025. The last rites of Zubeen Garg were to take place at Sonapur as per the wishes of Garg’s family.

The 52-year-old singer died in Singapore due to an accident while scuba diving before attending an event, and his body was brought to Assam on Sunday morning.
