The sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections recorded a voter turnout of 63.37%, according to the absolute numbers released by the Election Commission of India (ECI). A total of 58 parliamentary constituencies went to polls on May 25 during the sixth phase. From the total electorate, 61.95% male, 64.95% female and 18.67% third gender electors voted.
Bihar’s eight constituencies recorded 57.18 per cent voting and Uttar Pradesh’s 14 constituencies marked 54.04 per cent in this phase. The highest voting percentage of voting was recorded in West Bengal’s eight constituencies, 82.71 per cent.
“Final turnout will only be available post-counting with counting of postal ballots and its addition to total vote count. Postal Ballots include Postal Ballots given to service voters, absentee voters (85+, PwD, Essential Services etc.) and voters on election duty,” a statement from the Election Commission said. It added that the daily account of such postal ballots received, as per Statutory provisions, are given to all candidates.
Apart from Bihar, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh, parliamentary constituencies from Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Haryana and Delhi went to polls on May 25. Along with this 42 Assembly constituencies for the Odisha State Legislative Assembly were also voted in this phase.
This phase covered 11.13 crore voters that include 5.84 crore male, 5.29 crore female and 5120 third gender electors.
The results of the Lok Sabha elections will be out on June 4. The final phase of the elections will be held on June 1.
