MP Aparajita Sarangi: The Former IAS Officer Of Odisha Cadre, Took Voluntary Retirement To Join BJP

Aparajita Sarangi has got a BJP ticket to run for the Lok Sabha Election 2024 from the Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha constituency on May 25, 2024 (phase 6). The Congress party has fielded Yasir Nawar against Sarangi in the Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha constituency and meanwhile, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has fielded Manmath Routray.

Aparajita Sarangi is the current BJP MP from Bhubaneswar. Sarangi is a former Odisha cadre IAS officer of the 1994 batch. She quit the administrative services in 2018 and joined the BJP. She fought against the Biju Janata Dal”s (BJD) Arup Patnaik and won the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. During her tenure in the house, Sarangi registered 85% attendance of the house proceedings. She participated in 36 debates and asked 212 questions to women, transgender, health issues, juvenile justice and many more.

In the last Lok Sabha elections in 2019, Aparajita Sarangi secured Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha seat with 486991 votes while Arup Mohan Patnaik lost election with a margin of 23839 votes. The total turnout in the constituency during the last general elections was 59.17%.

BJP MP once targeted the Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik by allegedly calling him “Dhritarashtra” and asked to follow Rajdharma. She has also been allegedly attacked by the members of Mission Shakti with eggs and stones during her visit to the some area in her constituency.

Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha constituency

Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha constituency is divided in 7 assembly regions: Jayadev, Bhubaneswar Central, Bhubaneswar North, Ekamra Bhubaneswar, Jatani, Begunia and Khurda. In the last assembly regions, BJD occupied the 6 out of 7 seats in Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha constituency and 1 seat was won by the Congress party. Since 1998, BJD candidate Prasanna Kumar Patasani has been winning the Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha seat.

Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha constituency is a general category parliament seat which is comprises of part of Khurda district. The Lok Sabha constituency literacy rate is 77.72%. Here the Muslim, SC and ST population is 4.9%, 13.21% and 5.1%.

The Lok Sabha Election Result 2024 will be announced on June 4, 2024.
