The Sakti constituency is one among the 90 assembly constituencies in Chhattisgarh. It falls in the Jangjir-Champa district and north region of Chhattisgarh and is categorised as a rural seat. The key players in the 2023 Chhattisgarh assembly election includes the BJP and Indian National Congress and smaller parties like Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (JCC), AAP, BSP, and Left have also fielded their candidates in select constituencies. The polling was held during the second phase of voting on November 17.

In the last 2018 election, Sakti constituency witnessed a voter turnout of 75%. There were 196,588 valid votes cast out of a total of 147,438 registered votes. Indian national congress candidate Charan Das Mahant emerged victorious and became MLA from this seat. He secured a total of 78058 votes. Meanwhile, BJP candidate Medha Ram Sahu emerged in second position with total of 48012 votes.

But in 2013, election the seat was won by BJP candidate Doctor Khilawan Sahu. He secured a total of 51577 votes defeating Saroja Manoharan Rathore from Congress. While in the 2008 election, Saroja won from Congress and won the assembly elections with a total of 47,368 votes.

BJP candidate Dr Khilwan sahu will once again contest against the Congress candidate Charan Das Mahant. This time Charan has more challenges in the election as he will have to break the myth in the assembly elections because in the past four elections held after the formation of the state, the people have voted against the sitting MLA thereby changing their leader.
