Devender Yadav Appointed Delhi Congress’ Interim President

After Arvinder Singh Lovely quit, Congress has appointed Devender Yadav as the interim president of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee with immediate effect. Mr Yadav, also the AICC In-charge for Punjab, will continue his current responsibilities as well, a statement from the Congress party said.

A former MLA, Mr Yadav thanked the Congress leadership including president Mallikarjun Kharge, former presidents Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, General Secretaries Priyanka Gandhi and KC Venugopal on the responsibility.

“Will try my best to tread the coveted and ideological vision party has laid for me and give my 100%!,” he wrote on X.

Former Delhi unit chief Arvinder Singh Lovely resigned from the post on April 28 and he has cited his opposition to Congress’ alliance with the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party as the reason.

However, he has told news agency PTI,  “There is no anger against anyone, I was finding myself inefficient in giving my 100 per cent. I told them that these are the issues the party should focus on, and since I am not able to do them, you should give chance to someone else.”

In another comment to media, Mr Lovely said Pradesh Congress Committee’s dignity needs to be maintained. “Before officially declaring candidates, at least informally PCC must have been informed, but they didn’t do it. I can’t work like that as PCC President but I am ready to work as Congress #worker if they allow me to. If they don’t want me then it is a different case…,” he told news agency ANI.
