Congress is actively assembling a panel of two to three potential candidates for each of the capital”s seven Lok Sabha constituencies in anticipation of potential collaboration with the AAP party in Delhi.
During a meeting of the Screening Committee on Monday, led by Delhi Congress Chief Arvinder Singh Lovely with chairperson MP Rajni Patil along with members Sardar Pargat Singh and Krishna Allavaru, discussions were held alongside senior party figures, ex-MPs, former ministers and ex-MLA”s.
Following the discussions, leaders stated that the talks were “positive and fruitful” and revolved around cooperation between the two parties.
Regardless of the outcome of alliance talks, the Congress is committed to selecting a panel of “maximum three and a minimum of two potential candidates for each Lok Sabha seat,” a senior party leader said.
A senior leader said, “Feedback from the ground as well as the state leadership is being collated and discussed with representatives from the Central leadership. The process is expected to be completed soon. We want to enter the next phase of alliance talks (with AAP) with our own choice of candidates.”
According to a senior leader, alliance talks for several states across the country are imminent and those for Delhi were likely to be held any day. While affirming the party”s dedication to alliance agreements, the Delhi Congress party would continue the process of selecting candidates, stated Lovely.
He added, “…in the next month, the Congress workers will take up issues affecting the people at the polling booth-level by holding widespread campaigns against the failures of the BJP. The party will strongly take up issues affecting the people.”
AAP sources revealed that the party aims to make a strong case to stake a claim in Northeast Delhi.
At the meeting, AICC in-charge for Delhi Deepak Babaria emphasized Congress”s commitment to fortifying the India Alliance partnership, setting the stage for forthcoming discussions and potential collaborations.
