Diya Kumari: One Of The Deputy Chief Minister Of Rajasthan

BJP on Tuesday picked Diya Kumari and Prem Chand Bairwa as the Deputy Chief Ministers of Rajasthan. The party has chosen Bhajan Lal Sharma as the new chief minister of Rajasthan.

Diya Kumari, Rajsamand MP contested Assembly elections by replacing five-time MLA Narpat Singh Rajvi from the Vidhyadhar Nagar constituency and emerged victorious by defeating Congress candidate Sitaram Agarwal a vote margin of 71368. She is a former princess of the Jaipur and one of the seven BJP parliamentarians selected as candidates for the Rajasthan Assembly polls.

Hailing from the royal family of Jaipur, Diya Kumari entered into Rajasthan politics in 2013 in the presence of then Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi, Rajnath Singh, and Vasundhara Raje at a rally in Rajasthan’s Jaipur. In the same year, she elected from the Rajasthan”s Sawai Madhopur constituency. It was in 2019, she became a Member of Parliament to the Lok Sabha from Rajsamand defeating the Congress candidate by over five lakh votes.

Diya Kumari is the granddaughter of Man Singh II, the last ruling Maharaja of Jaipur. She married Narendra Kumar Singh, a commoner, in August 1997 to much furor to the royal family and in 2018, marriage ended in a divorce. The couple has three children, two sons and a daughter. She, along with her children runs a foundation called, Princess Diya Kumari Foundation.

However, former princess of Jaipur was not free from controversies. She sparked a row when she claimed that the land on which the Taj Mahal was built originally belonged to her ancestor and it hade been “captured” by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. Besides, she also stated that her family descended from Lord Ram”s son and to further her claims, BJP MP even offered to produce evidence of her family”s lineage in the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, Diya Kumari, expressing gratitude for choosing her as one of the Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan wrote on X handle: “I am committed to contribute to the development of Rajasthan while maintaining the dignity of this post.”
