The Bharatiya Janata Party announced today, December 12, that Bhajan Lal Sharma will be the new chief minister of Rajasthan. The BJP also announced that Prem Chand Bairwa and Diya Kumari have been appointed as Rajasthan deputy chief ministers. The major decision was taken during the BJP”s legislative meeting.
Bhajan Lal Sharma, who hails from Rajasthan”s Bharatpur, is a first-time MLA from the Sanganer Assembly constituency. During the BJP legislature party meeting in Jaipur, the surprise name was proposed by former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje. Notably, Vasundhara Raje was also said to be among the frontrunners for the chief minister’s post in Rajasthan. The legislature party meeting took place in the presence of the three central observers appointed by the BJP. The observers were Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Vinod Tawde, and Saroj Pandey.
Bhajan Lal Sharma won the Sanganer seat in the 2023 Rajasthan Assembly election by defeating Congress candidate Pushpendra Bhardwaj with a significant margin of 48,081 votes. Bhajan Lal Sharma, who has served as the State General Secretary for the BJP four times, secured 145,162 votes against his INC opponent, who polled 97,081 votes. The 56-year-old BJP leader was initially associated with the ABVP. According to the election affidavit, Bhajan Lal Sharma is a postgraduate who completed his MA (politics) from Rajasthan University in 1993.
“I would like to thank PM Modi, BJP president JP Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. I would also thank former CM Vasundhara Raje for proposing my name (as new BJP legislature party leader),” Moneycontrol quoted Bhajanlal Sharma as saying at a press conference in Jaipur. Meanwhile, state BJP leader Dr Kirodi Lal Meena said that Bhajan Lal Sharma will take the state ahead. “His name was proposed by Vasundhara ji and I forwarded the name,” ANI quoted the leader as saying.
Meanwhile, BJP leaders Diya Kumari and Prem Chand Bairwa will be the deputy chief ministers in the state. Diya Kumari, a member of the erstwhile Jaipur royal family, was one of the frontrunners for the CM”s post. Diya Kumari contested the 2023 Rajasthan Assembly polls from the Vidhyadhar Nagar constituency and won with a vote margin of 71,368. On the other hand, Prem Chand Bairwa represents the Dudu Vidhan Sabha constituency. In the 2023 Assembly polls, Prem Chand Bairwa won the constituency with a huge margin of 35,743 votes. Also, the BJP named Vasudev Devnani as the next Rajasthan Assembly Speaker. The BJP leader represents the Ajmer North constituency.
