Marginal Increase In Vote Share, Will Do Better In General Elections: Congress’ Rajasthan Review

New Delhi: The Congress party, that scored 69 seats, 30 less than last elections, held the Rajasthan assembly elections results review today and expressed confidence about doing better in the General Elections scheduled to be held next year.

The meeting held here today was presided over by the Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge. Among those who attended the meeting included former party president Rahul Gandhi, general secretary in-charge organisation KC Venugopal, party in-charge for the state Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Congress Working Committee member Sachin Pilot and others.

The Rajasthan assembly elections were held on November 25 and the results were announced on December 3 along with Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram where state elections were held last month. Congress emerged victorious only in Telangana out of these five states while BJP managed to wrest Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh from Congress and retained Madhya Pradesh.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, Mr Randhawa said detailed review of the results was taken and various issues were examined. He said, a detailed analysis will also be done as what were the shortcomings that led to the defeat and how to overcome these.

He, however, pointed out, the performance of the party was not bad as there was a very small difference between the vote share of the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party. He said, in fact the Congress vote share had marginally increased over what it was in 2018.

The Congress in-charge for Rajasthan said that the rank and file of the party was already geared up for the General Elections scheduled next year. He said, like in the assembly elections, the party will fight the parliamentary elections unitedly with full vigour and confidence.
