Ten BJP MPs Who Won State Assembly Elections Resign From Parliament

Ten Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Members of Parliament (MPs) who won the state assembly polls resigned from their membership in Parliament on Wednesday, December 6. This decision was taken after a meeting with BJP President JP Nadda and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The assembly elections were held in four other states, including Madhya Pradesh, Thelangana, Chhattisgarh, and Mizoram.

BJP President JP Nadda led the delegation of the MPs during the meeting with PM Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, and Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar. Out of the 10 resigned MPs, nine are from Lok Sabha, and one is from Rajya Sabha. These MPs include Narendra Singh Tomar, Prahlad Singh Patel, Rakesh Singh, Uday Pratap, and Riti Pathak from Madhya Pradesh; Arun Sao and Gomati Sai from Chhattisgarh; and Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Diya Kumari, and Kirodi Lal Meena from Rajasthan.

Notably, 12 BJP MPs emerged victorious in the recently concluded state assembly elections. Two remaining leaders, including Renuka Singh and Mahant Balaknath, will hand over their resignations soon. The saffron party had fielded 21 MPs in the assembly polls. However, nine MPs faced defeat in the elections. The BJP had fielded seven MPs each in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, four in Chhattisgarh, and three in Telangana. However, no MPs were able to win in Telangana and Three BJP MPs lost in Rajasthan. Also, two MPs lost in Madhya Pradesh and one in Chhattisgarh. It should be noted that the Indian Constitution does not permit an individual to function both as a Member of Parliament and as the Legislative Assembly of a state.
