The former Congress MLA Raju Algur has been nominated as the Congress candidate from Karnataka’s Bijapur (Vijayapura) Lok Sabha constituency. He was appointed as the District Congress Committee (DCC) president in 2019 and has said that his main priority lies in exposing the hypocrisy of the BJP. He was also waiting for his foray into Lok Sabha. He has on several occasions slammed the policies of Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

In an interview with The Hindu in 2019, Mr Raju Algur Accused the BJP government at the centre of disseminating hollow nationalism and misguiding people, expressing his desire to counter the saffron party“s propaganda. Completed his post-graduation in political science from Karnataka University, Mr Raju Algur started his career as a lecturer at Atharga PU College of BLDE Institute, and has been part of several social and cultural activities. He has a total declared one crore plus assets and has no criminal cases registered against him.

Raju Algur who is going to try his luck in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections has proved his mettle in leadership and organisation by working across various fields in leadership roles. Raju Algur was elected to the Nagthan Assembly constituency in 2013 against the Janata Dal (Secular) candidate Devanand Phulsing Chavan. He reportedly refrained from contesting the following assembly elections as he hoped for his expected Lok Sabha ticket. However, during the 2019 general elections, with the JDS and Congress alliance, the Bijapur seat was given to the Congress”s ally, JDS.

Later in the 2023 assembly elections, he wanted to contest from his previous constituency, Nagathan. But the party this time chose Katakadond Vitthal Dondiba who joined the Congress after leaving the saffron camp. However, his Lok Sabha dream has come true as the grand old party nominated the former Nagthan MLA from the Bijapur constituency for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
