Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee today slammed the remarks of the Bharatiya Janata Party national spokesperson and party candidate from Puri Lok Sabha constituency, Sambit Patra, about Lord Jagannath being a ‘Modi bhakt.’
Banerjee said that after listening to Patra’s remarks, she didn’t know whether she should “cry, laugh or bang (her) head.”
Further criticising the BJP leader’s comments that has been condemned by many opposition parties, the TMC chief said “Fair enough, if he is so big and if he is God then let us make a temple for him and let Narendra Modi stay in that temple. We will offer pujo, offer dhokla or meat whatever he wants to eat.”
She added, “Let him stay in the temple and spare the country and constitution.”
“They are saying Lord Jagannath is #PMModi bhakt. After listening this, don’t know should I cry, laugh or bang my head. Patra’s recent statements of Odisha’s most sacred and respected deity Lord Jagannath being a bhakt of Prime Minister Modi has triggered a political row with many top leaders such as Naveen Patnaik, Mallikarjun Kharge, Arvind Kejriwal, Rahul Gandhi and more slamming the BJP leader.
WhileBJD chief and Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik described the statements to have “hurt the Odia Asmita (pride),” Congress President Kharge accused the BJP of being “drunk with power.”
Patra has since apologised for his “slip of tongue.” However, the opposition leaders have condemned his remarks and called them an “insult” to Lord Jagannath.
