J-K Assembly Polls: Congress Releases Second List

Congress on Monday released second list of candidates for the upcoming Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir.  With this new list comprising six  names, a total of 15 candidates have been announced so far.

The six candidates in the list are,  Tariq Hameed Karra (Central Shalteng), Mumtaz Khan (Reasi), Bhupender Jamwal (Shri Mata Vaishno Devi), Iftkar Ahmed (Rajouri [ST]), Shabir Ahmad Khan (Thannamandi [ST]), and Mohd Shahnawaz Choudhary (Surankote [ST]).

As per the INDIA alliance seating-sharing deal, the National Conference (NC) will contest on 51 seats, Congress on 32 seats, CPI (M), and Panthers Party on one seat each, while Congress and NC will have a ‘friendly but disciplined contest’ on five seats.

This is the first Assembly election going to be held after abrogation of Article 370 and bifurcation of the erstwhile state into two Union Territories. The elections will be held across three phases –  September 18, September 25 and October 1. The results will be announced on October 4.
