J-K Assembly Elections: BJP Releases Amended List Of 15 Candidates

The initial list came today morning after Central Election Committee finalised the party’s candidates for the polls in Delhi yesterday.

After withdrawing the initial list of 44 candidates released on Monday morning, the BJP released its revised list of 15 candidates for the first phase of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly polls.  Following, another list with just one name has also released. The fresh list focused specifically on the first phase where polling is scheduled for September 18 wherein the previous list had included candidates for the second and third list as well.

The initial list came today morning after Central Election Committee finalised the party’s candidates for the polls in Delhi yesterday. The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and attended by BJP’s top leadership including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP chief JP Nadda.

The candidates from the Kashmir Valley includes Arshid Bhat (Rajpora), Shokwat Gayoor Andrabi (Pampore), Javed Ahmed Qadri (Shopian), Rafiq Wani (Anantnag West), Syed Wajahat (Anantnag), Sofi Yousuf (Srigufwara), and Veer Saraf (Shangus) from the Kashmir Valley.

The names in the list from the Jammu region are Tariq Keen (Inderwal), Shagun Parihar (Kishtwar), former minister Sunil Sharma (Padder-Nagseni), Daleep Singh Parihar (Bhaderwah), Gajay Singh Rana (Doda), Shakti Raj Parihar (Doda West), Rakesh Thakur (Ramban) and Salim Bhat (Banihal).

In the second list of one candidate, Choudhary Roshan Hussain Gujjar has been fielded from Kokernag constituency.

The BJP is going contest the Assembly polls, without forming an alliance with any party. Meanwhile, the Congress has forged an alliance with Farooq Abdullah’s National Conference (NC).

Jammu and Kashmir has been functioning without an elected government for five years now and assembly were last held in 2014. For the 90 assembly constituencies, Assembly elections will be held on three phases –  September 18, September 25 and October 1. The results will be announced on October 4.
