Ram Madhav As BJP's Election In-Charge: Return Of A Political Strategist

As Jammu and Kashmir is gearing up for Assembly polls after a decade, BJP has placed Ram Madhav poll in-charge. He will be sharing the responsibility with Union Minister G Kishan Reddy.

Madhav, a RSS veteran and former party general secretary returned to active politics close to four years. As per the reports, his appointment was discussed and approved by the top leadership of the party.

Hailing from Andhra Pradesh, Ram Madhav worked as a journalist for more than 20 years with RSS-sponsored publications and has been editor of the Bharatiya Pragna, a monthly English of Pragna Bharati. He has also served as the national spokesperson of the RSS from 2003 to 2014.

From RSS, Madhav initiated into BJP after Modi became Prime Minister in 2014. He then served as the party national secretary during 2014-2020. He was entrusted with handling the political matters of Jammu and Kashmir, and Northeastern states.

Madhav’s strategic acumen in this regard is lauded as the regions where the saffron party struggling to find a base, he was instrumental in making impressions. His deeper understanding of the political landscape of the states proven effectual — alliance rule between BJP  and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in  J&K exemplify that. He played pivotal role in bringing together both parties to form a coalition government in 2015.

However, he dropped in from the secretary position when JP Nadda took over as party president and constituted a team. Following, Madhav got re-inducted as the National Executive of the RSS in 2021. He is a member of the Board of Governors of India Foundation and also a mentor at the India Foundation – a New Delhi-based think tank.

Ram Madhav’s return underlines how important J&K assembly polls for BJP. Though the BJP-PDP alliance broke off in 2018, Madhav’s share of good relationship history with J&K is undoubtfully proven; therefore, his influence and skills across political aisle cannot be dismissed. A brilliant strategist, party hopes his leadership will bring more coordination between the BJP and the RSS, more unity at the organisational level and aid in advancing electoral prospects.
