CPM has given ticket to prominent figures to beat the upcoming Lok Sabha election 2024. The party has fielded several old and new faces in Malappuram to beat Muslim League. K S Hamza is who the party has now opted to field from Ponnani Lok Sabha constituency. The constituency is under the clasp of Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) for many years.
K S Hamza is known to be the rebel candidate, who once had been a state secretary of the IUML. He was expelled from the party over the disciplinary issues. Rift between Kunhalikutty, known to be the strongman of IUML, and Hamsa has led to the unceremonious exit. Hamza, then went on and accused the party of holding talks with RSS under the direction of Kunhalikutty.
Later, Hamza became the staunch opponent of Kunhalikutty during top-level party meeting, in which he said that Kunhalikutty did not criticise Prime Minister Narendra Modi because he is scared of the ED (Directorate Enforcement). He said Kunhalikutty was unwilling to oppose Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan because of fear of the Vigilance.
Following the accusations, Kunhalikutty said he is ready to step down from the position of the deputy leader of the opposition. However, the party’s State President Panakkad Sayyid Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal set up a disciplinary committee to probe into the allegation of Hamza, which eventually led to his exit from the party.
It is said that CPM is eyeing at the close relation of Hamza with Samastha, the Muslim scholarly body. Recently he visited Kozhikode and met with leaders of the group.
