Sitting MLA Mangesh Kudalkar has clinched victory in the Kurla assembly constituency, defeating Shiv Sena UBT’s Praveena Morajkar.
As a candidate of the undivided Shiv Sena, Kudalkar had emerged victorious both the 2014 and 2019 assembly elections after capturing it from NCP’s Milind Kamble in 2009. After the split, Kudalkar aligned with Shinde Sena. The MLA however hit hattrick by asserting his supremacy over the rival Sena candidate. Kudalkar secured a margin of 4187 votes.
The rival candidate Shiv Sena UBT’s Praveena Morajkar, a former councillor in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation, polled 68576 votes. Notably, the candidature of Praveena has created discord in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, with some local politicians suggesting they would not support her candidacy. The Sambhaji Brigade had accused Kudalkar of misusing the Atrocities Act by filing false cases against members of the Maratha community. The Brigade had also asked Thakarey to reconsider its candidate.
