A recent survey for Maharashtra has predicted a victory for the INDIA alliance (or Maha Vikas Aghadi) in the upcoming 2024 Assembly elections. The survey, conducted over a month with a sample size of approximately 1,50,000 people across all assembly constituencies, suggests a tight race between the INDIA and the ruling NDA (Mahayuti).
The INDIA alliance, consisting of Congress, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), and NCP (Sharad Pawar), is projected to secure between 141 and 154 seats. In contrast, the NDA, which includes the BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde), and NCP (Ajit Pawar), is estimated to win between 115 and 128 seats. Other parties are expected to gain between 5 and 18 seats.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the INDIA alliance outperformed the Mahayuti, winning 30 out of 48 seats. The Congress claimed 13 seats, Shiv Sena (UBT) won nine, and the NCP (Sharad Pawar) secured eight. Meanwhile, the Mahayuti managed to win 17 seats, with the BJP taking nine, Shiv Sena (Shinde) winning seven, and the NCP (Ajit Pawar) securing just one.
The Legislative Assembly elections in Maharashtra, set for November–December 2024, will elect 288 members. The survey indicates that the INDIA alliance currently leads in 153 assembly segments, surpassing the Mahayuti, which leads in 126 segments. The magic number for a simple majority in the Assembly is 145 seats, setting the stage for a closely fought election.
