The poll-bound Madhya Pradesh government has notified 35% women reservation in state departments except forest. By implementing this move, the government aims to garner women votes in the impending assembly election. The government has amended the Madhya Pradesh Civil Services (Special Provision for Appointment of Women) Rules, 1997 to ensure 35% reservation for women.
The state government has issued a notification stating that 35% of all posts in the service under the state (except Forest Department) shall be reserved for women at the stage of direct recruitment. The reservation shall be horizontal and compartment-wise, and it will be implemented regardless of anything contained in any service rules.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had earlier announced that the government is considering 35% reservation for women in police and other government jobs. Moreover, 50% of teaching posts will be filled by women, the CM said.
Chouhan has also announced that the government will provide financial assistance to beneficiaries under the “Ladli Bahna Yojana.” The scheme is the BJP government”s flagship welfare scheme for women, and it provides a monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,250 to every beneficiary.
According to experts, Chouhan made this call in anticipation of the announcement of the assembly polls schedule. Assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh are about to take place by the end of the year. Chouhan believes that these moves will help the ruling BJP woo women voters, which is crucial for the party”s success in the state.
