“We will analyse the loopholes and why we were not able to make the voters understand our point”, said former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Kamal Nath on Sunday. He was responding to the media after BJP secured a landslide victory in the state, with incumbent Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan grabbing his fifth term with his highest ever victory margin.

“We will hold discussions will all, be it a winning or losing candidate”, said Kamal Nath on Sunday. Meanwhile Congress MP Rahul Gandhi expressed his acceptance of failure in three of the four states, where counting was held on Sunday. “We humbly accept the mandate of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan – the battle of ideology will continue”, Rahul Gandhi wrote on X. “I am very thankful to the people of Telangana – we will definitely fulfill the promise of making Prajalu Telangana. Heartfelt thanks to all the workers for their hard work and support”, he added.

In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP was expecting an easy win looking back to the state’s previous history, while Congress expected a reversal. The sitting Chief Minister, Mr Chouhan, is there in the office since 2005, except a two-year break in 2018 to 2020. He is the longest-serving CM of Madhya Pradesh (4 times) and also the national Vice-President of BJP – a steadfast labourer of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Mr Chouhan won the seat with a margin of 10,4974 votes. The BJP leader secured 1,64,951 votes while trailing Indian National Congress (INC) candidate Vikram Mastal secured 59,977 votes. The counting for the state is still underway, but the ruling BJP was exceptional and maintained 100 seat margin with their rival Congress.

Madhya Pradesh, one of the five Indian states which witnessed legislative assembly elections recently, went polling booths on November 17. Being a large state in terms of geography and population, the state has 53 districts in total along 10 divisions. The population of the state was over seven crores in terms of the 2011 census data.

According to the recent data provided by the Election Commission of India, the state had more than 5.5 crore voters who were eligible to exercise their franchise. It included 2.8 crore male and 2.7 crore female voters. The polling was held on November 17. The state, comparing to the previous elections had witnessed a rise in the polling percentage this year by 1.25 per cent. Previously it was 74.97 per cent and in recent election it rose to 76.22 per cent.
