In Mehrauli, BJP’s Gajainder Singh Yadav wins the seat with 1,782 votes. AAP’s Mahender Chaudhary came second, and Independent candidate Balyogi Baba Balaknath came third. The Mehrauli Assembly Constituency is located in the South Delhi district. Major contestants are AAP’s A Mahender Chaudhary, BJP’s Gajainder Yadav, and Congress’ Pushpa Singh.
During the 2020 Assembly election, AAP’s Naresh Yadav won the seat with the margin of 18,161 votes. He won the seat by defeating BJP’s Kusum Khatri. Mahender Chaudhary, who was a Congress candidate back then, came third with 6,952 votes.
In the 2015 assembly election, the seat was won by AAP’s Naresh Yadav won the seat with the margin of 16,951 seats. He won the seat by defeating BJP’s Sarita Chaudhary, and Congress’ Satbir Singh.
While BJP ruled the constituency from 1993 to 2003, Congress held the set from 2003 to 2013. BJP won the seat in 2013, and AAP won in 2015, and 2020.
The Assembly election in Delhi was held on February 5, with over 15 million voters casting their ballots across 70 constituencies. A total of 699 candidates, including 96 women, contested the elections.
The triangular contest in the national capital created palpable tension. While AAP and Congress are part of INDIA alliance on national level, the two parties are contesting against each other in Delhi. If BJP won the capital, it would be a huge comeback after 27 years.
