Shakur Basti Assembly Election Result: Karnail Singh Of BJP Leads

Karnail Singh of the BJP party is currently leading with 5,950 votes in the Shakur Basti constituency, surpassing the AAP’s three-time MLA  Satyendar Jain, who has secured 2,994 votes.

Shakur Basti, one of the key constituencies of the state, has witnessed a crucial contest between BJP, Congress, and AAP parties. The seat has incumbent AAP MLA Satyendar Jain against BJP’s Karnail Singh. Congress has fielded Satish Luthra.

The Shakur Basti constituency witnessed the victory of the AAP party in the past three elections, with Satyendar Jain emerging victoriously against BJP. In this election the incumbent MLA is aiming for a hat trick, establishing the party’s stronghold again. Meanwhile, BJP has fielded Karnail Singh, hoping to end the AAP’s decade-long rule.

In the last Assembly elections, the AAP’s Satyendar Jain won by a margin of 7592 votes. The BJP’s Dr. S. C. Vats was the runner-up, securing 43573 votes. In the 2015 Delhi Assembly elections, Jain secured a close victory with 51,530 votes. BJP’s S.C. Vats garnered 48,397 votes, while Congress candidate Chaman Lal Sharma received 4,812 votes.

According to the data from the Election Commission of India, there were 99,245 voters in the Shakur Basti constituency during the 2020 Delhi Assembly Elections. Out of this, 51,954 voters were male and 46,892 were female.
