Chief Minister’s Husband Faces Allegations Of Unofficially Running Delhi Government

Delhi, India: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has levelled serious accusations against Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, alleging that her husband, Manish Gupta, is unofficially managing key governmental affairs. This controversy arises shortly after Rekha Gupta’s historic appointment as Delhi’s fourth female Chief Minister, marking the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) return to power in the capital after 27 years.

Atishi, a senior AAP leader and former Chief Minister, presented a photograph purportedly showing Manish Gupta presiding over a meeting with officials from major departments, including the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Delhi Jal Board (DJB), Public Works Department (PWD), and Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB). She stated, “This must be the first time in the history of the country that a woman has become the Chief Minister and all the government work is being handled by her husband.”

Drawing parallels with past practices in rural governance, Atishi remarked, “Earlier we used to hear that if a woman Sarpanch was elected in the village, then all the government work would be handled by her husband.” She questioned Rekha Gupta’s capability to manage governmental responsibilities, citing ongoing issues like power outages and rising private school fees in Delhi.

Manish Gupta, an executive at Kotak Life Insurance, has maintained a low public profile. Following his wife’s appointment, he expressed surprise and pride, describing her elevation to Chief Minister as “like a miracle” and a testament to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for women’s empowerment.

In her address, Gupta emphasized her commitment to fulfilling the BJP’s promises and addressing corruption.
