New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday announced the launch of the party’s student wing at the Consultation Club of India in New Delhi. The new student wing, known as Association of Students for Alternative Politics (ASAP), aims to connect students from colleges and higher educational institutions from across the country and motivate them to push for political reforms.

This comes after the party faced a major setback when 15 of its councillors resigned and announced the formation of a new party known as Indraprastha Vikas Party (IVP).

“Best wishes to all the young friends on the launch of Aam Aadmi Party’s student wing ASAP,” Kejriwal wrote on X. He further added, “ASAP will not only give a new direction to student politics but will also become a strong platform for Alternative Politics. Through this, we will prepare a young generation that will change the definition of politics and work for the country. The energy of the youth will now be channelised into the politics of change.”

Earlier, the party had a youth wing known as Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS), which had even take part in the Delhi University elections. However, the party clarified that ASAP would function parallel to CYSS.

Notably, it was one of the few political engagements of Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi after his party lost the February 2025 assembly elections.

During the speech, Kejriwal also slammed the BJP and Congress for stating that they practice mainstream politics. “While the world is focused on AI (artificial intelligence), mainstream politicians are pushing your children into religious conflicts—while they send their own kids to elite foreign universities. This is called mainstream politics… winning elections through misuse of power, manipulating electoral rolls… is their mainstream politics while winning the hearts and winning the elections is alternative politics,” said Kejriwal.

He also compared AAP’s governance model in Delhi with BJP and said that within three months, BJP had ruined the government schools.

Meanwhile, former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that even after over 75 years of Independence, India is late in giving the required education to the students.
