In a heated contest for supremacy, Aadi Srinivas of the Congress secured the top position in the Vemulawada Assembly Constituency during the 2023 Telangana Assembly elections. When Aadi Srinivas of Congress triumphed with a substantial margin of 71,451 votes, his rival, Chalmeda Lakshmi Narasimha Rao of the Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi (BRS), could gather only 56,870 votes.
The polling for the Telangana State Assembly elections took place on November 30 across 119 constituencies. The constituency witnessed a fierce competition, featuring notable candidates such as victorious Aadi Srinivas, Chalmeda Narasimha Lakshmi Rao (BRS), and the Vikash Chennameni (BJP) along with other independent candidates. Vemulawada saw a high voter turnout in the 2023 elections, with 78.43 percent of the electorate exercising their right to vote.
The Rajanna Sircilla district of Telangana is home to the ancient historical town of Vemulawada, a major pilgrimage site with political and cultural significance. It was the capital of the Vemulawada Chalukyas from the 7th to the 10th century CE and is now part of the Karimnagar Lok Sabha constituency.
In the 2018 polls, Ramesh Chennamaneni of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi won the seat by defeating Srinivas Aadi by a margin of 28,186 votes and a 54 per cent vote share, bringing previous elections into focus. In the 2014 elections, however, Chennamaneni defeated Aadi Srinivas by a margin of 5,268 votes. As the 2023 results unfold, it become apparent that Aadi Srinivas” strategic move to join the Congress has paid off.
