INC’s Gaddam Vinod puts hold on the Durgam Chinnaiah succession in the Bellampalli constituency of Telangana state. INC candidate Gaddam Vinod won the constituency ending the supremacy of BRS’s Durgam, by securing 82,217 votes. Durgam Chinnaiah who came second was able to garner 45,339 only votes, losing to a margin of 36,878 votes. The constituency witnessed astonishing change in the tide with the succeed of Gaddam Vinod.
Bellampalli constituency is one among the three constituencies of Telangana”s Mancherial district. Besides, it is one among the 19 reserved constituencies for the Scheduled Caste (SC) in the Telangana Legislative Assembly. Durgam Chinnaiah, the current MLA and representative of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) party, now BRS, has so far dominated the constituency with two consecutive victory in 2014 and 2018.
In the previous assembly election of 2018 from the constituency, Durgam raised to the position of MLA by overcoming the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate Gaddam Vinod. Durgam with a vote of 55,026 secured the office, which was followed by Gaddam in the second place with a vote of 43,750 and the independent candidate Kondagurla Veda Prakash in the third place with a total vote of 10,684. The constituency had 1,53,016 voters then.
Like 2018 elections, the 2014 assembly elections of the constituency was also secured by Durgam Chinnaiah under the same party. However, the main opponent of Durgam of TRS was Gunda Mallesh of Communist Party of India (CPI). Even amidst strong oppositions Durgam accumulated 73,779 votes from a 1,60,990 voters pool, which is more than half of the total electors. Durgam was followed by Gunda of CPI with 21,251 votes and in third Pati Subhadra of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) with 9,167 votes.
Based on the latest reports, out of the total 119 seats, INC has dominated the Telangana Assembly elections, winning 29 seats and leading in 35 seats. The trailing BJP confirmed 15 seats, while BJP stands far back, just achieving 4 seats and leading in 4 seats. Along with Telangana, the Assembly elections were held in four other Indian states – Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram. The results of these states, except Mizoram, were announced today. As per the recent reports, besides Telangana, BJP dominated the election results in other states positioned themselves in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan, pushing back the INC.
