In a stunning win, BRS candidate Vakiti Sunitha Laxma Reddy won the Narsapur Assembly Constituency in the Telangana Assembly elections of 2023. With a commanding lead of 88,410 votes, in this highly competitive election, Sunitha defeated Congress candidate Aavula Raji Reddy, who received 79,555 votes. Key candidates in the fray include Erragolla Murali Yadav from the BJP, Aavula Raji Reddy from the Congress, and the triumphant Vakiti Sunitha from the BRS, along with several independent candidates.
Vakiti Sunitha has a notable political history, having previously served as a Congress Party MLA for three consecutive terms from Narsapur Assembly Constituency, Medak District. In the cabinets of Dr. Y.S. Raja Sekhar Reddy and K. Rosaiah, she served as Minister for Minor Irrigation.
Notably, at a public meeting in the Medak parliamentary constituency in April 2019, Sunitha made the conscious choice to join the TRS Party. 88.04% of voters in the Narsapur constituency cast ballots in the Telangana Assembly elections of 2023, reflecting the high voter turnout in the area. There were 1,07,587 male voters and 1,12,617 female voters out of the 2,20,211 total electorate in Narsapur.
This victory marks a significant turnaround for Vakiti Sunitha of Congress who faced defeat in the 2018 elections at the hands of Chilumula Madan Reddy of the TRS(now BRS) . However, Sunitha”s determined campaign and widespread support led to a substantial victory this time.
The Narsapur Assembly constituency, falling under the Medak Lok Sabha constituency, has been a battleground for political contests. With a wide victory margin in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Kotha Prabhakar Reddy of the TRS (now BRS) strengthened the party”s position as the region”s dominant force.
Vakiti Sunitha”s victory is a monument to her tenacity and the changing political climate in Telangana, as we consider the election results. The people of Narsapur have spoken, and Sunitha”s victory underscores the dynamic nature of electoral politics in the state.
