Bharath Rashtra Samithi (BRS) candidate Kale Yadaiah has secured a narrow margin victory by defeating Congress candidate Bheem Bharat Pamena in the Chevella constituency in Telangana. Kale Yadaiah has secured a total of 76218 votes defeating Bheem Bharath Pamena who has garnered 75950 votes and lost by just 268 votes. BJP candidate K S Ratnam with 38455 votes came in third position.
The assembly elections of Telangana state were conducted on November 30. Chevella Assembly constituency is one of the eight constituencies in Ranga Reddy district in Telangana and is reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates. It presently comprises the mandals Chevella, Shankarpalli, Shabad, Moinbad and Navabpet. It was in 1962 that the constituency headquarters was shifted from Shahbad to Chevella and renamed as Chevella Assembly constituency.
It was also Kale Yadaiah who won the last two assembly elections held in Chevella. In the 2014 assembly elections, representing INC Kale Yadaiah had garnered 64182 votes and won by narrowly edging out Telangana Rashtra Samithi”s Korani Sayanna Ratnam who was able to secure 63401 votes.
In the Assembly elections of 2018, Kale Yadaiah contested under the banner of TRS. With 99168 votes he defeated the runner-up KS Ratnam who represented INC in 2018 and had gathered 65616 votes. Ratnam was followed by BJP”s Kanjarla Prakash with 5457 votes.
Turning back to the 2009 assembly elections, it was KS Ratnam representing the Telugu Desam Party won the elections by securing 62332 votes. While Kale Yadaiah represented INC and garnered 60083 votes and came second.
Overall, according to the latest reports, out of the total 119 seats, Congress is leading with 64 seats and BRS with 39 seats is in second position in Telangana. BJP with 8 seats is currently in the third position in the total seat share and AIMIM has got 7 seats. While CPI was able to secure a seat. Along with Telangana, the Assembly elections were held in four other states including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Mizoram.
