In the byelections held in the nine Assembly constituencies across Uttar Pradesh, the ruling BJP has managed to pull of an impressive performance after the 2024 Lok Sabha debacle. As per the information available on the Election Commission of India website, BJP is leading in six seats while its alliance Jayant Choudhary’s RLD is ahead in one seat.
Samajwadi Party, the top performer in this summer’s Lok Sabha elections, on the other hand, is leading in only two seats.

Samajwadi Party (SP), the top performer in this summer’s Lok Sabha elections, on the other hand, won in only two seats – Karhal and Sishamau. In SP president Akhilesh Yadav’s bastion Karhal, he won the seat by roughly 70,000 votes in the 2022 election. The party has won the seat now for over 30 years.
While the BJP has won in Ghaziabad, Khair, and Phulpur, the saffron party is leading in Katehari, Majhawan, Kundarki, as of 4 pm.
The ruling party has not only retained the three seats it won in 2022 but flipped two others – Kundarki and Katehari – while also securing another seat NISHAD party.
Surender Diler and Deepak Patel lead in Khair and Phulpur by over 40,000 and 9,000 votes, respectively.

Meanwhile, voting for the bypolls were muddled with accusations of alleged electoral malpractice including Yadav claiming that certain sections of voters – Muslims and Yadavs – were threatened and prevented from exercising their rights by police officials.
Taking cognizance of his complaints, the Election Commission directed the UP police administration to suspend five police personnel in the state.
