UP Police Female Recruits Protest At Training Centre Over Lack Of Basic Facilities

The Uttar Pradesh Female Police recruits have staged a protest over a lack of basic amenities at the training centre in Gorakhpur, hometown of UP CM Yogi Adityanath. The police trainees have been questioning the government’s inability to give facilities to female recruits.

The protesting female police trainee expressed anger over the lack of basic amenities including water, electricity, personal spaces to take a bath, and other facilities. “We are forced to bathe in the open in front of men passing by”, protests one trainee.

“Why have they conducted this training if they can not provide basic facilities to women police trainees? The training centre can accommodate only 250 women, and over 600 trainees have been invited for the training,” the female trainee said.

“We don’t have enough water to drink and there is no electricity, no fans.”, claims another female trainee. The women are also complaining of harassment by the superintendent for using abusive language.

The female trainee constables alleged that there is only 1 water purification facility installed for 600 women, and 4 fans are being used for every 30 women. Even the fans are not functioning properly, the protesting police trainee said.

Commenting on the upcoming CM Yogi Adityanath visit to Gorakhpur, one of the protesting trainees said that when the CM visits, the administration lays out separate new roads for them and can not arrange clean drinking water and electricity for us.

The recruits have gone on strike, sitting on the ground, and refused to continue training until their grievances are addressed.
