Aamir Khan has long expressed his dream to adapt the Indian epic Mahabharat for the big screen. He has talked about his plans in the past a few times. But now it seems that the actor-producer is much closer to making the dream a reality.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Aamir revealed that he plans to begin work on the Mahabharat’s silver screen adaptation this year. He also said that the film will be produced under his banner, Aamir Khan Productions.

“It will take a while because the writing process will take a few years,” he explained. The Laal Singh Chaddha actor shared that the film will be made in multiple parts, much like the Lord of the Rings franchise.
The potential franchise could even have multiple directors. “I don’t think you can tell Mahabharat in one film, so it will be multiple films. I am looking at the large scale. It’s too early to say, but we may need multiple directors,” he said.
Will Aamir himself feature in the film, or will he remain behind the scenes only? Well, the actor has not decided yet. Aamir shared that the decision about casting will be based on what suits each character.
Aamir was last seen in the 2022 Laal Singh Chaddha alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan. The film was a remake of the Hollywood classic Forrest Gump. After it failed to make a mark at the box office, Aamir took a break from films.

He will next be seen in the upcoming Sitaare Zameen Par, a thematic sequel of the 2007 hit Taare Zameen Par. Directed by RS Prasanna, the comedy will star Genelia Deshmukh alongside Aamir, who plays a basketball coach called Gulshan, who will be exactly opposite from the kind and empathetic Nikumbh in the first part.
Produced by Aamir and Kiran Rao, the film, focusing on the experiences of differently abled people, will hit theatres on June 20.
