It was the 15 consecutive flops he faced in the 1990s, pushed Mr. Kumar to apply for Canadian citizenship, reported the New Indian Express.
Earlier in an interview with India Today, Mr. Kumar stated that he had applied for an Indian passport and will be renouncing his Canadian Citizenship soon. “I am an Indian and it hurts me that I am asked to prove that every time”, he said then.
His citizenship was a big controversy as he did not vote for 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The debate worsened as he later conducted a “non-political” interview with Prime Minister Narendra Modi before the elections.
It was in 2019, during an event, Mr. Kumar revealed that he had applied for an Indian passport.
